Following Derrike is any easy choice. He gives of his time to others as seen in the various charities. And on the track he drives hard. There were many races in 1996 that he was competitive and moving-up in when his car died on him or some other misfortune occured. When anything occured you knew he was disappointed, however, he tried to maintain a good disposition. This is what I look for in a driver. My first race to see live is this June at Pocono and as always I will be pulling hard for Derrike. I hope he will have time to take five minutes and meet some of his fans although I realize he will be very busy. This year a new team and new sponsor and new owners. It sounds like they want to win also and will do what it takes to put a good car together for DC. Thank you SKITTLES® bite-size candies (our own rainbow warriors). And even if you aren't Rick Hendrick's fans, thank you Rick for the guidance in setting up the team and for supplying powerplants. We all know how his drivers have faired. And without many DNF's. I told my 13 year old daughter, Tonya, that Derrike will win in 1997. And when he does, the family will have to all go out and dance in the street. I told her that on Feb. 16 her shoes better be by the front door. Go Derrike, race hard, have fun, and be safe. We all will be watching. And oh yes, my shoes are already by the front door. king@csrlink.net |
