TO SPONSOR BAHARI' RACING
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Jan. 12, 1999) -- Bryan, Jimmy
Dean, State Fair, and Rudy's Farm exploded onto the NASCAR Winston Cup scene while
announcing one of the most innovative sponsorship packages in the sport's history.
The four brands from the Sara Lee Corporation
will rotate as primary sponsors on the No. 30 Pontiac driven by 1990 Daytona 500 champion
Derrike Cope and owned by Chuck Rider throughout the 34-race 1999 season.
Jimmy Dean will serve as the primary brand for 19
races, including the season-opening Feb. 14 Daytona 500. Bryan will make its debut on the
hood the following week in the 400-mile race at North Carolina Motor Speedway, the first
of its eight races. State Fair Corn Dogs will be featured in six races, in addition to the
Winston Open, and will appear in the primary brand role for the first time for the March 7
Las Vegas Motor Speedway race. Rudy's Farm will take the primary brand role in the
season-finale at Atlanta on Nov. 21. The four Sara Lee brands are stepping up to primary
sponsorship roles after serving as associate sponsors for Bahari' Racing last year.
"Bryan, Jimmy Dean, State Fair Corn Dogs and
Rudy's Farm all got a taste of NASCAR Winston Cup racing last year and they all wanted to
take a bigger bite in 1999," said Jerry Laner, Sara Lee Group CEO. "We're
excited to be affiliated with team owner Chuck Rider and driver Derrike Cope because they
work as hard for a sponsor away from the track as they do on the track. We believe our
sponsorship is one fans will find unique and exciting."
Entering his 12th season as owner of Bahari'
Racing, Rider's teams have finished outside the top-25 in the final point standings only
once. His teams have won five pole positions, posted 69 top-10 finishes and captured more
than $7 million in earnings.
"Bryan, Jimmy Dean, State Fair Corn Dogs and
Rudy's Farm are all excited about marketing their brands through racing in order to sell
more products," Rider said. "They're all going to play a tremendous part in
allowing Derrike Cope to run at the front this season. We're intent on giving these
companies the desired return on their investment." |
