Jimmy Dean 30th Anniversary

30th Anniversary CarRichmond, VA (May 14, 1999) - Jimmy Dean Foods, America's No. 1 breakfast sausage, announced promotional plans for its 30th anniversary at Richmond International Raceway today, including the unveiling of a special 30th anniversary paint scheme on the No. 30 Pontiac Grand Prix driven by 1990 Daytona 500 champion Derrike Cope.

In addition, two promotions will run May through October to celebrate Jimmy Dean's 30th anniversary. NASCAR racing fans can get in on the celebration in two exciting ways:

  • A 30th anniversary sweepstakes featuring three Pontiac Trans Ams to be awarded as grand prizes, including a limited edition 30th anniversary Trans Am. Cope will draw the Trans Am winners at Talladega Superspeedway on Oct. 17. Thirty Weber gas grills will be awarded as first prizes and 30 Pony computers will be given away as second prizes.
  • By collecting "Cup Points" on packages of Jimmy Dean rolls, links and patties, sandwiches, heat 'n serve sausage links and patties, and dinner sausage. Five, 15 or 30 points can be redeemed on each package, good for free (plus shipping and handling) die-cast models of the #30 Jimmy Dean Pontiac. There are four different models in all, including a limited edition 30th anniversary paint scheme on 1/24th and 1/64th scale models.

Consumers are automatically entered into the sweepstakes when they redeem "Cup Points." They can also enter via in-store tear pads or logging on to www.jimmydean.com.

With our 30th anniversary promotion, our consumers can become a member of Team Jimmy Dean and experience the breath-taking excitement of NASCAR racing."

Renowned motorsports artist Sam Bass, who designed all of the paint schemes for the Pontiacs at Bahari' Racing, also created the 30th anniversary layout on the No. 30 Pontiac displayed for Saturday's Pontiac Excitement 400. It features gold metal flake paint serving as the primary color and Jimmy Dean 30th anniversary logos on the hood and rear decklid.

Richmond resident Jimmy Dean, a renowned country music recording artist, formed Jimmy Dean Meat Company in 1968. By 1984, Jimmy Dean sausage was "America's No. 1 breakfast sausage" according to a national survey of consumers. That same year, the company became a division of Sara Lee Corp., an international food and consumer products company with annual sales in excess of $20 billion. Dean continues to serve as Chairman of the Board and corporate spokesperson for his namesake company.
