In practice on Thursday, Derrike was 16th fastest of 48 drivers in the Kodiak Chevrolet with a time of 35.432 and speed of 152.404. NASCAR Online had a photo of Derrike in his Kodiak uniform.

In Friday's first practice, Derrike was 24th fastest with a time of 35.547 and speed of 151.911. In Friday's second practice, Derrike was 30th fastest with a time of 35.495 and speed of 152.134.

In first round qualifying, Derrike took the track as the 39th of 48 drivers and produced a lap of 35.832 with speed of 150.703. This was only good enough for 36th position at the time and at the end of the round, the Kodiak Chevrolet was left in 45th position.

In Saturday morning's practice before second round qualifying, Derrike was 5th fastest with a time of 35.824 and speed of 150.736.

In second round qualifying, Derrike produced a time of 36.028 and speed of 149.883. This was not a fast enough time and with no provisionals, the Kodiak Chevrolet will miss the race.
