In first round qualifying on Friday
Derrike took the road course as the 26th of 45 drivers and posted a time of 1:15.796 and
speed of 116.365. This was the slowest at the time. At the end of the round, the Gumout
Pontiac stood in 43rd position.
The team ended up taking a
provisional and Derrike will start the race in 42nd position.
Derrike started the race in 42nd

- 39th position - lap 9 of 90 (Derrike and Chad
Little got together on the inner loop and both spun. Little continued on but apparently
Derrike ran off the track as he was soon down a lap.)
- 43rd - lap 11 (1 lap down. Shown passing Geoff
Bodine and it didn't look like a lot of damage on the left side where he had touched
Little.)
- 41st - lap 24 (1 lap down)
- lap 46 (Dale Jarrett and Derrike touched on the
restart after a caution but no problem)
- 41st lap 47 (2 laps down)
- 39th - lap 52 (1st car 2 laps down)
- 40th - lap 54
- 40th - lap 75 (3 laps down)
