MBNA 400 Live Report

by Dennis DiPietro

Let me start by apologizing for such a late report. After the race, my wife and I had to drive our son to Camp Lejeune, N.C. It was an interesting spur of the moment trip, to say the least.

Anyway, our day started as a normal race day. The day was cool with an occasional strong breeze. It was colder than it was for Happy Hour, which adversely affected some teams.

Shortly after the race started, Derrike reported he was loose through turns 1 and 2. The team tried to wait for a caution flag to adjust the car. His first pit came at lap 80. There was some problem I couldn't pick up on the scanner and Derrike returned on lap 84. While in the pit, the 21 and 25 cars touched and were damaged at turn 1 bringing out the day's only yellow. The SKITTLES® team, and others just didn't have time to adjust on their handling. Derrike did the best he could with a bad day as he improved from his 38th starting spot to finish 30th.
