We came in early Friday morning, around 3am. We
were put into a staging lot outside the track and we were in line. Once it turned a little
brighter out we could see our neighbors in campers and buses just waking up and getting
ready for today's qualifying. We biked down to check out the track and already it was
alive with action. We went back to our camper and got some breakfast. From there, we went
on shuttle buses to the main grandstand where we bought tickets for $5. We watched
Michigan native Johnny Benson take the pole and the crowd was very pleased. That night, we
got to move into our infield guardrail spot in turn three and that's where we would be the
rest of the weekend.
The first night was fun, we set up camp in the
space that was provided and began to party. We put up our large flags and set up tables
and made a fire. From here until Sunday night, there would be virtually no sleeping.
The next day we got ready to watch one of the
most exciting divisions in NASCAR Racing, the Busch Grand National division. 100 laps
decided the leader, Steve Park. All day it seemed Martin had the strongest car but fuel
played a part in deciding who won. Saturday night was a fun night, but it rained hard and
drove us back in our camper.
Finally, Sunday came and we were all ready for
the huge race. When that greeen flag dropped it was very exciting. Although rain messed up
a bit it wasn't that bad. The race was very exciting all the way until the end and Mark
Martin was very dominate all day. Even coming back from a blown tire he was still strong.
Afterwards it was time to pack up our stuff and
move out, but there was only one problem. MUD!!! There was very deep mud holes that many
vehicles got stuck in but luckily we got out!!!!! |
