| "The guy with the best setup on
the car will win the Winston Open," said Derrike, whose best finish in the Winston
Open came in 1988 when he finished fifth. "However, if there's a caution it could
come down to tires. This will be a good test for the SKITTLES® Race Team. We haven't had
a lot of time on a track like Charlotte this season so the Winston Open will give us a
chance to prepare for the Coca-Cola 600." Derrike qualified for the Winston Open in 15th position. After his qualifying run, he was in 3rd and fell later to the 15th spot. The car is the same car that was used at Texas and during qualifying it was said to have "pushed like a tank." Derrike started in 15th position and this is
where he was during the race among the 30 cars:
Derrike finished the race in 18th position. The car was just too tight on the track and the track did not cool down as much as the team had expected. Ricky Craven, the winner of the race, moved on to the Winston later that night.
James Hickey was at the race. Please check his live report. |
