Winston Select Open

This was the first race with Badcock Home Furnishings as the main sponsor.

Derrike was in the Winston Select Open hoping to finish in the top five so he could then go on to the Winston Select that same night. He started the race at 5th and things were looking good for awhile as he made his way up to 3rd position.

After a caution, his left rear tire blew requiring him to pit. By the time he got out of the pits, he was a lap down and hope for a top five finish was most likely lost. The car ended up overheating on the 39th lap and Derrike ended up finishing 28th in the race.
