Derrike qualified at a respectable 17th position. During most of the race he stayed around the 18th position. That was until he got into a tangle with Kyle Petty leaving both with body damage. The incident put Derrike down two laps and little hope for a victory.

The fortunate thing in the race is that Derrike was able to finish running and not lose his position in the point standings.
