At Talladega, Derrike was in contention for the majority of the race, usually in the top ten, and at one point even at number four. That was until the big wreck occurred that wiped out 14 cars, including Derrike's. Watching the instant replay, it looked like he was going to squeak through the wreck cleanly, until someone tagged him from behind sending him into a spin.

Fortunately, the team was able to get the car going again so he could finish the race with better points.
