Before qualifying, Derrike Cope said, "The car's been better than the results show! That's part of the sport. If we can get the monkey off our back -- the car's capable of winning races. We can turn it around here. Darlington's always been a good race track for us -- our finishes show it. If we can qualify up front I think we can finish up there and carry it on."

After qualifying in 20th position, Derrike explained, "We had a couple of spark plug wires crossed and I had to come back in a get those switched around, but as soon as they did that, we went back out and made a lap. I guess I'm pretty happy with that."

Derrike had to leave the race early with engine problems to finish 39th.
