1995 Winston Cup Season

Derrike with Straight ArrowDerrike Cope started out the 1995 season hoping for good things to happen with the Bobby Allison Motorsports (BAM) Team as this was their first full season together. Jimmy Fennig was the crew chief.

The season started great with Derrike getting a fifth at Darlington. Since he was one of the few that came away with no major damage and since he had finished well, NASCAR decided to take the #12 Mane 'n Tail Ford Thunderbird to a wind tunnel test. This seemed to cause disruption for the team as there was a big slump in the middle of the season.

Straight Arrow carFortunately, the team got back on track in the last half of the season and even finished second at Phoenix. There was a great chance at winning that race, but Ricky Rudd took the lead on the last lap to pull out the win ahead of Derrike by .53 of a second. Tire wear for Derrike resulted in the second place finish.

The team ended the season on a very positive note with finishing 15th in points.

During the off weekend racing, Derrike Cope was able to get in some racing by traveling to Georgia and West Virginia to compete in three Racing Champions races. These events give some of the Winston Cup drivers an opportunity to travel to other tracks and race in different cars.

Derrike also participated in his first Grand National Supertruck race in Richmond, VA. Straight Arrow, Mane 'n Tail, also sponsored the Ford truck. Derrike qualified in 14th position for the race and ended the race in sixth.
