Daytona 500

February 15, 2009
Daytona, FL

Pre-Race

Blu Frog Energy will be the primary sponsor for the #75 Blu Frog Energy Dodge that will be running to qualify for the Great American Race, the Daytona 500, to be held on Sunday, February 15. Derrike will drive the #75 Dodge owned by Cope/Keller Racing in one of the Gatorade Duel Twin 150-mile qualifying races.

"We're really delighted to have The Limu Company and the new Blu Frog Energy drink as our sponsor," said Cope, the 1990 Daytona 500 Champion. "We're especially excited to create great synergy for the Blu Frog Energy brand in combination with Larry Foyt. It's pretty rare but very powerful to have three separate vehicles creating major branding and awareness opportunities for the same company. This Speed Week should give a huge boost to the Blu Frog Energy brand!"

FW1 Project Top Secret will be an Associate Sponsor. The FW1 Project Top Secret label is designed to raise awareness and funds for the U.S. Wounded Soldiers Foundation.

Saturday, February 7

In the first practice, Derrike was 51st fastest with a time of 49.391 and speed of 182.219. In the second practice, he was 51st fastest with a time of 49.503 and speed of 181.807.

Derrike updated us on Saturday's events at Daytona. He said, "Things are a bit hectic right now. We practiced today with the Cup car. We were not that fast by ourselves, but we will keep working on it. Wednesday will be the important day when we get to practice in the draft. Qualifying will be what it is, just a starting spot for Thursday. I will update you prior to Thursday's Twin Gatorade Duals."

Sunday

In Qualifying, Derrike produced his fastest time of 49.445 with speed of 182.020. At the end of the round this put him as 51st fastest. This put him in the Gatorade Duel 2 race starting 25th.

Wednesday

In the third practice, Derrike was 45th fastest with a time of 48.342 and speed of 186.173. In the fourth practice, he was 48th fastest with a time of 48.378 and speed of 186.035.

Thursday, February 12

Derrike started 25th in the second race and finished in 22nd position. After taking into consideration both races and the qualifying times, Derrike was left in 51st position which was unfortunately not enough to make the race.

Official Report

Derrike said, "With Daytona coming to a close I have to admit it was not the performance I was looking for. We were unable to transfer out of the Gatorade Duel 150 mile race to make the Daytona 500. We were not able to keep up in the draft. I am certainly disappointed for the team, Gary Keller and myself, as well as the fantastic sponsors who came on board to support our effort, Blu Frog Energy Drink and Top Secret Wax (FW1). They were all very supportive and I look forward to trying to provide some further exposure for them as we progress forward during the year. We could never really find the speed necessary in the Cup car."
