Pre-Race

Newton-Everett Biotech, the world renowned maker of premium supplements and nutraceuticals will sponsor NASCAR veteran and former Daytona 500 Champion Derrike Cope in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series. Newton-Everett Biotech will market Vialafil, a natural male enhancement supplement on the #74 Dodge beginning at UAW-Ford 500 at the Talladega Super Speedway this weekend. Vialafil.com will also be the co-primary sponsor at the Checker Auto Parts 500 at Phoenix International Raceway on November 12th. Vialafil is sold worldwide as is available exclusively through www.Vialafil.com

"We are proud to break ground with this exciting new sponsorship opportunity and offer NASCAR fans a chance to discover Vialafil, a product for male sexual enhancement that has sold at over 2 million doses worldwide!” says Stefan Russell, President of Newton-Everett Biotech.

Vialafil will be an associate sponsor on the #74 Dodge at Talladega. Derrike had previously told us that Talladega has new paving and he was excited about going back there.

In the first practice, Derrike was 38th fastest with a time of 50.299 and speed of 190.382. In the second practice, he was 37th fastest with a time of 50.260 and speed of 190.529.

Derrike gave us an update for Friday. He said, "As far as the Cup car, I have to say that I am very pleased with the Sundance Vacations Dodge. We definitely have a shot at qualifying for the race tomorrow. It is difficult to tell how good you are and how you stack up with the competition. You need a clean lap without any cars around and since this is an impound race, the top 35 cars were all drafting which causes a problem trying to get a clean lap. Most of our runs were fairly clean so we hope that we can repeat our laps in qualifying."

In Qualifying, Derrike produced his fastest lap of 51.105 with speed of 187.379. At the end of the round the #74 Dodge was 36th fastest but because of provisionals, he will start the race in 43rd position.

After Saturday, Derrike gave us an update by saying, "It has been a very productive start to the weekend. We have qualified for the race! What an outstanding job by the crew and the engine builder Joey Arrington! This was put together in a short period of time and to qualify this well is fantastic. I am really looking forward to the race although we have no practice time with the car in race configuration. With the impound rule and the top 35 points situation, all the other locked cars practiced in the draft which is quite unfair, but I am excited just the same. I really enjoy racing on the super speedways. So we will go to work and do the best we can on Sunday."

Derrike started the race in 43rd position and finished in 43rd position.

Official Report

Even though the #74 Dodge went 10 laps, contrary to some people's thoughts, it was not a start and stop. After the race, Derrike said, "First, after all our practice was done NASCAR implemented a smaller plate. So that hurt us qualifying. We qualified 36th ahead of some good cars, but if you do not qualify in the top 35, all the locked cars start ahead of the non-locked cars.

"At the start of the race the car responded well and I headed for the middle where the truck was the most productive and we moved right up. The engine and car felt great, but right away as we got up in RPM, we had not put a higher rev limiter chip in the ignition and I was against it, the motor started missing, and I could not use full throttle. Then soon after the water temperature went out of sight and pegged the gauge. We elected to come right in and with a hole saw cut some holes in the front of the car. For some reason the water temperature would not come down, so being it was Joey Arrington’s engine and we could not figure out what the problem was, we decided to call it a day. We certainly had nothing to gain and would only have put the car at risk for no real gain.

"I was truly disappointed that we did not get to race. It has been a long time that I have had that good of a car at a super speedway where I felt that I could really go out and be highly competitive. What a great job by everyone just to make the race though. It is really tough when it comes to restrictor plate racing, and to outrun some of those heavily funded teams who have dedicated plate personnel, it says a lot for our accomplishment."
