Pre-Race

Derrike and the team head west to Las Vegas. Redneckjunk.com will sponsor Derrike Cope and the 50 Arnold Motorsports entry in this weekend's UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The promotional activity is timed to coincide with the launch of e redneckjunk.com website, which will feature classified advertising for racing equipment, hunting and fishing gear, boats, and recreational vehicles. "We're pleased that this opportunity came together, and that we have the privilege to become affiliated with a former Daytona 500 winner," said Tom Connelly, CEO of the new site. "At redneckjunk.com we're all about racing, and what better way to connect with race fans than with a sponsorship in the biggest motorsport series in America. We're planning some really fun things on the site with the 'redneck' theme, and we want to keep it all in good humor." Located in Bolton, Massachusetts, redneckjunk.com has plans to sponsor an entry in the Busch North Series, and also in the New England region of the Dodge Weekly Series.

In the first practice, Derrike was 40th fastest with a lap of 32.598 and speed of 165.654.

In qualifying, Derrike had a first lap of 31.894 and speed of 169.311. The second lap was slower with 32.066 and speed of 168.40. This put him in 31st position at the time. At the end of the round, the #50 Dodge was left in 40th spot so the team took a provisional to make the race. Derrike will be starting in 40th position.

Official Report

Summing up Sunday’s outing in Las Vegas, Derrike shared some details, "We had only three laps of practice when the motor broke and therefore had to qualify with a new car that I had only driven for three laps. Considering that, we ran a decent qualifying lap and used a rather conservative setup due to our abbreviated practice. Due to the engine change we started the race in the back of the pack. We got a lap down early and lost another lap when we got caught in the pits under caution. That cost us several spots at the finish. We made a lot of changes during the race and as a result the car was strong particularly during the middle of the race. Tire wear was a problem late in the run. Actually, we finished the race with a right front tire worn down to the cords. We backed off during the last couple of laps hoping not to blow that tire. Also, we lost third gear mid-race which hurt us on restarts. The boys from CLR did a super job with our pit stops. We are taking this car to Atlanta this weekend. I was pleased with the way the car ran and our engine was strong."
