Derrike said this about the Brickyard
400, "As far as Indy goes, the transporter left Wednesday evening and is now in Indy. The car looks great! Poison will again be featured on the car like in Pocono, thanks to MNR Productions. MNR Productions has been instrumental in providing the means to get this race team to its current state. Ernie Cope, Brad Bennett, Kevin
Hilty, and James Boykin have really worked very hard to aid Arlyn Davis and myself in getting Quest Motor Racing in a position to have had the effort at the Indy test and to this point. The car was really good at the Indy test, and I look forward to getting there and getting started."
In the first practice, Derrike was
42nd fastest of 50 drivers with a time of 50.942 and speed of 176.672.
In qualifying, Derrike took the
track as the first car and had lap 1 with a time of 50.734 and speed of
177.40. The second lap was slower with a time of 51.120 and speed of 176.06.
At the end of qualifying, the car was sitting in 45th position which was not
fast enough to make the race. On NASCAR This Morning it was reported
that during qualifying a bird hit the race car.
Derrike provided this update about
the qualifying. "As you know Indy did not go as we had hoped. I was
really confident that we would be quick enough. We had lost some speed from
testing, the car was tight on entry to the corners with the added rubber
from the IROC cars I assume, and we just did not quite get back to where we
needed to be. We missed the race by 14 hundredths of a second!
"We did hit a bird taking the green which folded the air dam under the
car, and with aerodynamics being so important, we lost some down force on
the nose and the car pushed to a greater degree. But, we will forge ahead.
It was truly disappointing but we just have to keep learning and get better
as a whole. I will let you know as soon as I can as far as where we will go
next."
