Derrike was excited about going to the race. He said, "Quest Motor Racing will be running a Winston Cup car at the Brickyard 400 and it will be a Chevrolet number 37. The sponsor will be Geico Direct. It is a one off sponsorship race. Also DeeZee will continue as the associate sponsor, both on the remaining Winston Cup efforts as well as the Busch Grand National (BGN) events. In addition, IWX Motor Freight (Steve & Joan Coulter) and Stoops Freightliner have been involved, and we are very pleased to be affiliated with them for the Brickyard. We are excited to be going to Indianapolis. We tested there and had a productive test. We have made changes to the car with the hopes of improving some things aero-wise, as well as a substantial increase in horsepower when we return for qualifying." There was an article about Derrike: Article In Friday's first practice, Derrike was 42nd fastest of 54 drivers with a time of 52.318 and speed of 172.025. In the second practice, Derrike was 47th fastest with a time of 51.544 and speed of 174.608. In qualifying, Derrike took the track as the 32nd car. He completed a lap with a speed of 175.087which put him in 27th position. Unfortunately this was not fast enough to make the race due to provisional starters taking the spots away so the team will miss the race.
