Third Derrike Cope Fan Club Meeting
Minutes
by Bruce Bates
|
Derrike addressed the group and talked extensively of his accomplishments
and
his frustrations during his NASCAR career. Clearly, he is excited to be
racing for his own team where he will have control of key factors such as
personnel, development, budget and day to day operations. Budget in the
competitive arena of NASCAR is an essential ingredient for success.
Derrike
estimates that it takes 12 to 15 million dollars to operate a successful one
car team. He is optimistic regarding potential sponsorship and was
encouraged
by the contacts with potential sponsors that have occurred. Derrike is proud
of his affiliation with Warren Johnson and clearly pleased that Quest Motor
Racing will be capable of running their own in house motor and chassis
program. He fully expects that they will begin their testing program in a
matter of weeks.
Derrike contributed a large supply of shirts and other items from his career
for the door prize drawings. Shirts, hats, diecasts and other items were
contributed by the fan club and fans. Each person attending received at
least
one major item in the drawings.
Derrike answered all fan questions during the question and answer session
and
as he usually does honored all autograph and photograph requests.
