I became a Derrike Cope fan mainly due to Mane & Tail - I have a horse and I liked the sponsor. But, after really watching Derrike and then meeting him at the Winston Preview, the sponsor really didn’t matter anymore. It was the driver that sold me! Derrike seemed like such a nice guy, he was so personable, and the only driver I saw at the Preview who took the time to stand up to let me take a picture with him! He took the time to talk to everyone and seemed so genuine. I watch qualifying every week, holding my breath for a good starting position; I watch the races every week doing the same for a good finish. I always feel for him and the team when something happens that is not of their cause, i.e., being in the wrong place when a crash occurs. They seem to try so hard every week. I often wonder how they can keep their spirits up. I want Derrike to know that there are fans out there supporting him and cheering him on every week. I wish much good luck for the team for the remainder of 1996 and for many successful seasons to come! |
