I became a NASCAR fan in 1995, after succumbing to the pressures of a large family all fully engaged in the joys of racing! Brothers, sisters, and friends hounding me day and night (maybe a bit exaggerated) saying, try it, you'll like it. Well, they were certainly right. I started watching the races that Spring and decided to cheer for Derrike after I saw him do an interview. I thought he seemed so level headed and intelligent, with a good sense of humor. My family and friends gave their blessings on my choice.
Anyway, I got to Dover in June of 1996 for my first race. When I went there, I was lucky enough to get my picture taken with the old Mane and Tail car. Now, I watch or listen to the race each week, and I'm just so thrilled about the 1998 Gumout sponsorship! I look forward to great qualifying and great racing in the year to come! |

As luck would have it, a
local fire company sponsors a race fest each summer, and Bobby Allison and Derrike Cope
were kind enough to join in the festivities in 1995. I met them at that event, and got
their autographs. What great sports they both were! Thank you!
