I have been a Derrike Cope fan since he was racing Northwest Tour and Winston West. My uncle Jim Haight has been a good friend of Derrike's for years. He got me into following Derrike. When Derrike got up to Winston Cup my uncle moved to Virgina and went in as part owner of Bob Whitcomb Motorsports. It was the biggest day of our lives when Dale cut that tire in 1990. After Bob Whitcomb left the sport my uncle stayed in Virgina and went to the races with Derrike. My uncle now has moved back to Washington State, but he still talks to Derrike.

I got to meet Derrike once in Washington. I almost got to meet him again at Sears Point in 1991, but his mother was sick at the time in Woodland,CA. I talked to his sister for an hour. She is a very nice person along with Derrike.

It looked like it was going to be a not so good career for Derrike but I think he has done a great job sticking in there during the bad times and now it is paying off. He has a bright future in front of him now that he will be with a top team. I hope we will see him in the winner's circle very shortly.

Also these are some pictures that Bob Whitcomb Motorsports took when Derrike won the Daytona 500. They are the winner's circle pictures. You can email me at raceman36@hotmail.com.
