founded Xpress Motorsports in 1996. Randy
Tolsma drove for Xpress on the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series from the start of the team
until September of 1998. The team competed in one NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series event
(Martinsville) with Randy Renfrow and in one NASCAR Busch Series, Grand National Division
event (Atlanta) with Derrike Cope in the fall of 1998.
The team will compete in the full 32-race NASCAR
Busch Series, Grand National Divisions schedule in 1999. NASCAR Winston Cup driver Derrike
Cope is slated to drive in 20 of the events, including the first 12 of the season.
Missouri short-track star Tony Roper will drive the No. 61 IWX Motor Freight Pontiac in
the remaining event.
In the spring of 1997 Dave Fuge joined the team
as team manager and crew chief. Fuge oversees the 12 employees who are in the process of
building the fleet of seven Busch Series, Grand National Division Pontiacs for the 1999
season. The team's shop is located in Mooresville, N.C.
Xpress Motorsports is a wholly owned subsidiary
of IWX Motor Freight. IWX Motor Freight has a fleet of more than 400 trucks serving 48
states and logging more than 98,000,000 miles per year. IWX Motor Freight was formed in
November 1988 and was based in Columbus, Ind. Today, the company headquarters is in
Springfield, Mo. In addition to the Springfield terminal, IWX also operates terminals in
Kingman, Ariz., and Columbus, Ind.
Stephen J. Coulter is the founder and owner of
IWX Motor Freight. Steve has been involved in the trucking industry most of his life. He
earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of
Missouri at Rolla. After college he went to work at the engineering department for
Cummings Engine Company in Columbus, Ind. |
