After experiencing two broken ribs,
a separated shoulder, and severe soreness, Derrike Cope returns to Busch Series racing as
pilot of the #92 Kraft Foods car. Injuries sustained as a result of a late race crash at
Atlanta Motor Speedway in early March, has prevented Cope from participating in Busch
Grand National events in Nashville and Darlington. Cope has not started a race as driver
of the Kraft Foods car since his 24th place finish in Rockingham. Substitute driver, David
Green, filled in while Cope was recovering.
Cope is looking forward to his
return to the Busch Series. "Climbing into the car and pit stops will be tough, but I
am excited about racing the Kraft Chevrolet in Bristol," Cope commented.
This will only be the Kraft Foods
teams third Busch Grand National event in 1998 with Cope in the drivers seat. However,
Cope's return has raised spirits and the team of Martin-Weiss Motorsports looks to bring
home the checkered flag in Bristol.
In first round qualifying, Derrike
produced a speed of 118mph which unfortunately was not good enough to make the show. |
