Jiffy Lube Miami 300 Live Report
It was a tough start to the weekend
for Derrike as he found the wall hard in the first practice session Friday. The entire back of
the car was gone as you will be able to see from the picture. The backup car was brought
out and it never did get up to speed with only one practice session to work on it. It took
me half of the second practice session to finally find Derrike's frequency so I could
listen in on what was going on. All of the frequency lists of the people I checked with
were wrong. If any of you will be in Homestead for the race, Derrike's frequency is
468.375. Derrike went into the garage during practice a few times with adjustments to
shocks and air pressure.
Derrike was the 37th car to qualify. For some reason,
he only took one lap instead of two. He ended up in the 39th position. The top 34 cars
qualified Friday and there were four provisionals added to that. The last four positions
will be determined in a 30 lap qualifying race on Saturday. Seventeen cars will compete in
the 30 lap race and Derrike will be on the pole. I never did get to talk to Derrike as he
was spending most of the time in the garage with the second car or in the motorhome. I did
talk to Patty Fox and she was very nice. Let's hope Derrike gets a top four in the
qualifying race Saturday.
Editors note: Unfortunately, Bob was
unable to make Sunday's race for a live report.
