The Rock

"We're looking forward to going," said Derrike Cope. "My new crew chief, Roy Guidland, he's helping out a lot. Roy is out of Washington State and is doing an excellent job. We're looking forward going to Rockingham and putting out a good effort there."

Derrike and the team qualified in 37th position with a speed of 147.945. He actually started 36 because Dick Trickle missed the driver's meeting and had to start in the back.

On lap 4 there was a multi-car wreck that fortunately Derrike was able to get around safely. This is where Derrike was during the race:

  • 24th position - lap 13 of 197
  • 23rd - lap 41
  • 26th - lap 60
  • 17th - lap 117
  • 16th - lap 137
  • 14th - lap 157
  • 12th - lap 187

Derrike ended the race finishing 12th, one lap down.
