After the race, Derrike said, "It was beginning to
look like we would not get the chance to qualify, but the rain stopped and
the track was dried and Kevin Lepage and I got our chance.
"We both had struggled with our cars, myself more so
because of it being a new front end and it not being on the race track this
year. What we struggled with was a steering box problem which never gave us
a lap the first practice session. The crew went over everything and made
significant changes and we were able to find the handle but still lacked the
speed necessary.
"But in qualifying we were able to put up decent
laps, which put both the #73 and the #78 in the race. We ran the #73 car for
a little while to see its tendencies for future races.
"We will make some changes to both cars and get them
ready for Gateway in St. Louis next weekend."
