Why Isn't Derrike Really Driving?
July 27, 2007Most of Derrike's fans wondered why Derrike wasn't driving a full race, so we posed the question to him. Here was his response:

"This sport and most all motorsport programs today require either the driver to bring money for the ride or the team has procured the funding based on certain initiatives, such as the driver or marketing platforms. In Jay Robinson Racing's case, they have an affiliation with Haas Racing who has supplied the cars and some engineering help and other things, so they can put drivers in races whether it be their Cup drivers, as well as development drivers if they choose to do so.

"It comes down to money. So if my fans are upset, then they should come up with some ideas to find funding.

"I try to stay involved however I can to still get seat time and stay up on all that changes within our sport that happen on a daily basis. I do not like to start and park either, but at the moment that is what is at my disposal.

"I am working hard on finding some opportunities for myself and my nieces. It takes time! I am not, and will not, give up. I never have, and I will find a way back so I can race again on a consistent basis."
