Derrike will be driving in the Busch race again this weekend. He said, "I wanted
to let you know that I will be driving for Jay Robinson again this weekend at
Darlington. This will be the first race for the Border Patrol so I am delighted
to have the opportunity get back to Darlington sporting their new colors as well
as getting the chance to work with the crew again. Darlington is a difficult
race track, but I have always seemed to have run pretty well there, and I enjoy
the challenge that it presents. This is a really nice car so I am hopeful to
have a productive effort for them and put some more points on the board to move
up in the lock in position.
"I was able to meet a number of the Border Patrol people in Richmond last
week. They are some great people who seem to really enjoy our racing
program. Their program will also have an activation side for recruiting at
many racetracks as well as functions and activities surrounding and
supporting the races. There are great job opportunities with the border
patrol as well, which they will certainly expose our NASCAR fans to."
Derrike updated us after practice on Thursday, He said,
"I spent the morning at Lowe's Motor
Speedway testing the 16 Truck for Express Motorsports. We had a good morning
session just trying to get the balance right. It was great to work with Dave
Fuge again. We go back a long ways and it brings back memories of our old
late Model Days.
"As for Darlington, we skipped the first
practice as did a number of good teams did. But in the final practice we
unloaded pretty well. We made a few adjustments and I was pleased with the
Border Patrol Chevy. When we went out for our mock qualifying run I ran up on
some traffic that blocked my run and ended up 28th fastest. I really feel like
we are faster than that and hope that we prove it in qualifying Friday
afternoon.
"I am looking forward to the race. I really
feel like we have a pretty good car. We did not get to make a lot of long runs,
trying to conserve our tires for the race. Wish us luck! I will provide an
update after the race."
In the second practice, Derrike was 28th
fastest with a time of 30.741 and speed of 159.969.
In qualifying, Derrike had his fastest lap of
30.578 with a speed of 160.822. At the end of the round, the #28 Chevrolet was
left in 39th position.

Derrike started the race in 39th position and finished it in 25th
position on the lead lap.

After the race, Derrike updated us. "Our weekend at Darlington ended pretty
well. We started by skipping the first practice all together. We made minimal
laps and did one mock qualifying run in which I got blocked in traffic. When it
came to qualifying I was very disappointed in my lap. We bottomed out in turn
three which made me get on the brakes pretty hard to keep it out of the fence
which slowed our lap.
"Once the race started we made our way past a few cars but the car went
to the tight side rather quickly and we were forced to pit early to try and
free the Border Patrol Chevy up. We battled hard all night but really tried
to stay out of harm's way which was quite a task. Fortunately we were able
to work on the car and get better, but fell off the lead lap late in the
race only to get the lucky dog and get back on the lead lap and finish 25th.
Not a bad effort. The great thing was we accomplished our mission to run a
bit conservatively to gain points, which we did on all the guys that we were
really close to in points."
