Derrike will be driving the #49 Ford in the Busch race this weekend.
He told us, "It came together a bit late. I went to Chicago to test Amber
(Derrike's niece) in an ARCA car, then went to Allentown to do an appearance for
Sundance Vacations, and then come straight to California. We only made 3 laps
yesterday, and will try and qualify today. The car was not too bad off the
truck, but was hitting the race track. Hopefully it does not hit today and I can
get a good lap in."
In the first practice, Derrike was 40th fastest with a
time of 42.507 and speed of 169.384. The team did not participate In the
second practice.
In Qualifying, Derrike could only produce a lap of 42.286
with a speed of 170.269. Because of provisionals, this pushed the car back
to 44th position where it did not make the race.

After qualifying Derrike said,
"The outcome in qualify is not what I was looking for. We missed it by 2 tenths
of a second. We ran a 42.20 and needed to run 42.00. We only had a few laps in
practice (3) and the car was bottoming out. We fixed that for qualifying but I
just did not get the lap I needed. Plain and simple. I am unhappy but it is what
it is! I will have to forget about it and go to Richmond with the Cup car and
start all over again!"
