Derrike notified us that he will be driving in the Busch race this weekend.
He said, "I will be headed to
Milwaukee for the Busch Series race this weekend. I will be driving the number
49 Advil Ford Fusion for Jay Robinson. Last time we were there we finished the
race but I do not remember where we finished. (Webmaster: 33rd on 6/25/05). I like racing there. It obviously
has a rich history of race car drivers that have raced there over the years. It
is a
difficult race track though to really get a handle on. Turn one is a bit quirky
on the entrance and the transition to the exit. The car needs to turn very well
and forward bite or grip is at a premium. We practice, qualify, and race all on
Saturday. If I get a chance, I will update you after practice."
In the first practice,
Derrike was 35th fastest with a time of 31.223 and speed of 115.300. In
Happy Hour, he was 32nd fastest with a time of 30.643 and speed of 117.482.
Before qualifying,
Derrike said,
"This weekend has started out with the news that my friend
James Hylton will be driving the number 28 car for Jay Robinson Racing.
James and I go way back to when I first came south and settled in
Campobello, SC at Leroy Maybry's shop. He has been a friend and great fun to
hang around with. As for our practice we ended up 32nd, but I think we can
pick up some. We only did one mock qualifying run and I feel like we can be
better. We qualify at 5pm and we go out 28th. It should be a fun night.
Hopefully we can have a productive race and get a solid finish. I will
update you after the race."
In Qualifying, Derrike produced a lap of 30.154 and speed
of 119.387 which at the end of the round put the #49 Advil Ford in 30th
position.

Derrike started the race in
30th position and finished in 34th.

After the race, Derrike said, "We were not able to finish the
race last night due to brake problems. I lost all brakes with about 40 laps
to go. I had to pump the brakes extensively all night long and had to back
off now and then to conserve what we had. The car started off tight but we
were able to make some headway throughout the night. The last segment was
the best for us with a set of new tires which made us much more competitive.
We ended up 34th. I do not know what is up next for me, but as soon as I
know I will let you know."
