Derrike will be at the wheel of the #28
Ford car for Jay Robinson Racing in Texas. RadioShack along with Motorola,
Olympus, Whistle, and Magellan will be the sponsors.
The nation's most trusted consumer
electronics specialty retailer and one of NASCAR Busch Series racing's most
trusted car owners will join forces for Saturday's O'Reilly 300 at the
1.5-mile Texas Motor Speedway.
RadioShack Corporation (NYSE: RSH) will ride with driver Derrike Cope and
the #28 Jay Robinson Racing Ford for the second time this season after
sponsoring the team in the season-opening NASCAR Busch Series race at
Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway. Cope, winner of the 1990 Daytona 500,
will drive the RadioShack Ford. In addition, four other RadioShack
supporters – Motorola, Olympus, Whistle and Magellan – will be prominently
identified on the car.
"When a high-quality corporation like RadioShack wants to be part of your
effort – even for a single race – that's a pretty nice pat on the back,"
said Cope, who is widely-recognized as one of the top marketing minds among
drivers in NASCAR.
"RadioShack obviously recognizes the brand loyalty of NASCAR fans, which is
evident in their sponsorship of the Nextel Cup race on Sunday at Texas, and
they understand the tremendous fan support the Jay Robinson Racing team
receives," Cope added. "This is a great way for them to get additional
nationwide exposure for the entire weekend among the best fans in any sport
anywhere."
Owner Robinson and driver Cope are considered two of the best business minds
among competitors in NASCAR racing. The pair has raced together in the Busch
Series for a couple of years. Cope also competes in NASCAR's Nextel Cup
Series, where he is a two-time race winner. The pair work together, and
their marketing savvy has gained the attention of fellow teams, as well as
corporate entities throughout the country.
Fort Worth, Texas-based RadioShack Corporation is the nation's most trusted

As a result of their 21st place finish in
Saturday's race Derrike advanced two positions in the driver point
standings. Derrike provided an overview of Saturday's run. "Coming off of
Bristol where we were first out of the field with a broken motor, we really
turned things around at Texas. We were pleased to have a productive run for
RadioShack. All in all it was a good day for the #28 team. We were a little
loose in qualifying and that hurt our time. In the race, Terry and the guys
did a good job. The car was well prepared and exhibited positive handling
characteristics. We leased a Carl Wagner engine and it really ran well. It
clearly was the best power plant that we have had under the hood this year.
We were able to pass a lot of good cars on the track and demonstrated that
we have the capability of being competitive. We did have a small problem in
the pits under green. Absent that, we were probably a top twenty car."
