Let me begin by apologizing for the lateness of this report. I left to
return home to Pennsylvania immediately after Saturday’s race in order to
beat the storm. Needless to say that didn’t work as I got home Tuesday
evening.
I had the privilege of watching Saturday’s race from the Jay Robinson
Racing #49 pit on Saturday and listened to Derrike, his spotter,
and the crew chief on the monitor. Derrike reported on lap 12 that the car
was pushing and that he would run the outside groove in order to
compensate for the difficulty in turning. He ran that groove for thirteen
laps and advanced to the eighteenth spot from his fortieth starting
position. Shortly thereafter the crew pitted Derrike during the first
caution and put on four tires, added gas and adjusted the tire pressure to
compensate for the push.
Derrike pitted during the second caution. This time they changed right
side tires, made a wedge adjustment, and added fuel. They came out of the
pits in eleventh position. During the third caution they changed four tires,
added gas and pulled the windshield tear off as Derrike was having
difficulty seeing. With about seventeen laps remaining, Derrike came on the
radio and advised the team that he was returning to the high groove as the
car was turning better there than on the bottom of the track.
Derrike finished the race thirteenth and on the lead lap. Nice job of
driving and congratulations to the Jay Robinson Racing team.
