Pre-Race

Derrike will again be driving the #49 Petro Express/Citgo Chevrolet.

In the first practice, Derrike's fastest time was 26.998 and speed of 100.007. During the first practice, something broke in the motor and the team did not get a full lap of practice in. This required a change in motors and an attempt at qualifying without any laps on the track.

54 cars were ready to qualify for the race. Derrike was scheduled to take the track as the 9th car but went out later somewhere around the 45th car. He produced a lap of 22.532 and speed of 119.830. At the end of the round, the #49 Petro Express/Citgo Chevrolet ended up having to take a provisional and will start the race in 42nd position.

In Happy Hour, Derrike was 40th fastest with a time of 22.360 and speed of 120.751.

The Race

Derrike started the race in 42nd position. Something happened to the car and it headed into the Turn 1 wall at full speed and slid along the wall for a long time. Derrike was helped by officials and taken to the infield care center. He was alert and okay but went to the hospital for x-rays. He did have some shoulder pain, but was able to tell his wife Renee (she was at a horse show) on the cell phone that he was okay. More on NASCAR.COM. According to some reports, Derrike fractured his right scapula and left fibula (lower leg).
